"i don't think this next poem needs any introduction-- it's best to let the words speak for themselves"- Billy Collins, in his poem, "The Introduction."

small but heavy
i am small
but i am heavy
because i carry
the ocean on my back
and in the ocean are their stories,
whispered like seagrass
and even in the silence,
in all that breath and stillness
they tell me
their sadnesses
their sadnesses
become my own
but i am heavy
because i carry
the ocean on my back
and in the ocean are their stories,
whispered like seagrass
and even in the silence,
in all that breath and stillness
they tell me
their sadnesses
their sadnesses
become my own
